The Lhasa Apso Club has, as one of it’s valued members, a "Rescue Officer"

The hard task of this Officer is to rehome Lhasa’s that for one reason or another can no longer be cared for by their present owner or owners.

When the Officer is contacted by a prospective person wishing to rehome their dog they are asked for the history and background of that dog. This enables the Officer to ascertain what type of home environment the dog would be best suited to. They are then asked to complete a form to say that they wish the dog to be taken into "Rescue"

When a prospective new owner contacts the Officer they are also asked numerous questions to make sure that they are the right person to become the new owner of the dog. Also that the dog has the right personality for them. The new owner must also complete a form accepting responsibility for that dog and it’s welfare.

Donations for this cause are always welcome, but the most important aspect is that the Lhasa is well looked after and happy.

Sheila and Buster

This is from Sheila Reeve, who recently rescued a little lad called Buster, this is their story.

SOMEWHERE OUT THERE.

I believe that the right dog will come into your life, on that right day.

To explain I became a widow two years ago after being a carer for my late husband for ten years . A year later sadly I lost my dog, a fabulous Golden Retriever called Barney, a big boy . Barney came everywhere with me, we had doggie holidays in Winterton, Norfolk , he was never kenneled , he had a great life with us .

But then I found myself on my own with just my exquisite 18 year old Birman cat for company, however there was this huge hole in my life. I decided to honour the memory of my beloved Barney by getting another dog, but this time a smaller breed.

Earlier in my life I had had a Lhaso Apso, Billie, from a pup for 18 years. We ran a pub at that time and Billie was bought up with my family. We all adored him, and so did the customers of the pub. For the last year I have searched every Animal Shelter, looked at dozens of dogs but they were just not right, I did not want any dog, he had to be special.

Eventually I found Linda on the Lhasa Apso Rescue site, she was very helpful and easy to talk to. Linda had offered me three Lhasas’ but for some reason they were just not right for me. Or maybe the timing was wrong!

Then one Thursday Linda called me to say she may just have the right dog for me and to meet her that Sunday at a dog show in Bedford. My friend Penny kindly drove me there. Fear and trepidation, would I like the dog, would the dog like me? We met Linda , and after her busy session in the kitchen , she took me to meet the dog. To my bewilderment I was shown two adorable young dogs. I cuddled them both, what a dilemma. I wanted them both! Penny was in tears over the dog we left behind.

Linda let me know which dog she had in mind for me, so it helped me to make up my mind. SO I had made my choice, the right dog that right day?

I sat with the little chap on my lap for the hour drive home, and he came into my home. He is marvelous, I have renamed him Buster for it suits him he is quite a character. He has learnt to go up the steps in my garden which at first he did not like at all. He now runs up and down as he wishes, and is loving his new found freedom .

“Oh what joy, I'm free and I'm having the time of my life”, he seems to say.He is learning to play with a ball and his toys and runs around the garden as fast as his little legs will let him. He comes everywhere with me in the car which is brilliant. We go to all those lovely places I took my beloved Barney to and it is wonderful. I have my life back in a way and I am so much happier. Buster is adorable all my family and friends have taken to him. He is so very cute and one happy dog. We are going training next week, so that will be fun for both of us.I definitely found the right dog on the right day, so thank you Linda.
You do a great job re homing these adorable little dogs. Perfect ending, the other little dog now has his new home. His new owners also found the right dog, on the right day.
LIFE IS GOOD AGAIN !
